Tuskwood Ancient Bogwood

Genuine bogwood, hand-picked from Nordic peat bogs where it has been naturally preserved for 500-4000 years. This unique process makes the wood partially mineralised, impregnated with humic substances, durable and beautifully dark reddish brown in colour. Tuskwood Ancient Bogwood is a highly sought-after type of root for aquariums and aquascaping.

  • Long service life: Partially mineralised and extremely durable.
  • Positive for the aquatic environment: Promotes balance and health in the aquarium.
  • No biofilm: Does not normally form a slime on the wood.
  • Sustainable and locally produced: Carefully handpicked in the Nordics.
  • Clear water: The impact of wood on the colour of water is normally very limited and short-lived.

Unique product P302618

A unique piece of Scandinavian bogwood, naturally preserved in peat over hundreds to thousands of years. This is a real eye-catcher and works perfectly as an aquarium root in aquascape and aquarium.

It is a unique root, and it is exactly the root in the photo you are buying. What you see is what you get, WYSIWYG.

Description of the nature of the root

A large and intricately branched Tuskwood root with a sturdy base, long S-shaped main branch and several smaller branches and root threads. The shape gives both dynamics and volume and is very suitable as a central hardscape in a larger aquarium.

Aquarium style suggestions and planting ideas

Suitable in Ryuboku, Nature Aquarium and larger planted riverbank layouts. Anubias, Bucephalandra, Java fern and moss can be attached to the base and branchwork, while taller plants such as Vallisneria, Hygrophila, Rotala or Limnophila can provide a more grown-up background. The S-shaped line makes it easy to create movement and depth in the layout.

Dimensions of the root

  • Length: 70cm
  • Height: 37cm
  • Depth: 29cm

Proposed aquarium format and size

At 70 cm long, 37 cm high and 29 cm deep, it is recommended for larger rectangular aquariums from around 90 cm upwards. It is best as the main root in a layout where it is allowed to carry the composition.

Advantages of Tuskwood

  • Genuine mineralised bogwood / moss wood
  • Long life span
  • Normally no biofilm or mucus formation
  • Works in both hard and soft water
  • Reliable sinking ability, normally sinking within 2-4 weeks
  • Naturally beautiful colour tones in dark brown with a slightly reddish tinge under water

Unlike regular spiderwood, manzanita, mangrove or Malaysian driftwood, Tuskwood comes from Europe and has formed naturally in Nordic peatlands. The mineralisation and impregnation of humus makes the wood durable and beautiful.

Tuskwood slowly releases natural humic substances that support fish health. However, the impact on the colour of the water is minimal and usually not noticeable.

  • Stable and mild release of humus
  • Positive for the well-being of fish
  • Spleen antimicrobial

A more sustainable choice

Much of the wood sold for aquascaping comes from tropical forests in Asia and is shipped halfway around the world.

Tuskwood is a Nordic natural material, collected locally as a by-product of other natural uses. This makes it a more sustainable choice, without tropical unregulated logging, mangrove destruction or undignified labour conditions. Tuskwood stands for minimal transportation and the promotion of local economy and jobs.

Tuskwood is a very small company, and we use AI to focus on quality and delivery. Aquascape renderings, translation into languages other than Swedish and the description of the individual root on this page are made using AI and may have minor errors. We apologise for this.
