WYSIWYG means "what you see is what you get". In other words: what you see is what you get.
For ordinary products, this may seem like a small detail. For aquarium roots, it is much more important. A root is not just a material. Its shape is the product itself.
When you buy a Tuskwood root as WYSIWYG, you buy exactly the root shown in the pictures. Not a similar root. Not a root from the same box. Not a product where the picture only shows an example.
It makes the choice safer, but it also makes the design freer. You can choose the root according to the aquarium you actually have and the feeling you want to create.
For smaller vessels, you can also read the guide aquarium roots for small aquariums, where shape, scale and proportion become particularly important.

Why does it matter so much for aquarium roots?
Two roots can be the same length but fit completely differently in an aquarium.
One might be low and wide. The other might be tall, narrow and branched. A third may have a clear direction to one side and works perfectly if you want to leave open swimming space on the other side.
You can't understand these things just by knowing the type of wood or its length. You need to see the shape.
That's why WYSIWYG is so important to Tuskwood. Our roots are not standardised clones. They have grown naturally, shaped by different conditions and taken on different expressions. Some are powerful and dramatic. Others are simple, low and more subdued.
Both types can be right. But they fit different aquariums.
You don't just choose size, you choose role
When you look at a WYSIWYG root, you should not just ask: "Will it fit?"
You'd better ask:
- Should the root be a distinct head shape?
- Will it blend in with plants and rocks?
- Will it create an open swimming area?
- Should it be low-key and give maturity to the whole?
- Should it stand up, lean diagonally or feel like roots from above?
These are the things that determine whether the root is right in the long term.
A root that looks impressive on its own in a picture is not always the best in every aquarium. Sometimes the best root is the one that doesn't take over, but makes the fish, plants and the whole environment feel more natural.
WYSIWYG reduces the risk of mis-selling
When a store only shows sample images, the customer may get a root with a different shape, width, direction or feel than the image suggested.
This can work if you just need "some root". But if the root is to be an important part of the aquarium's design, it makes a big difference.
WYSIWYG allows you to compare several actual roots and choose the one that fits best. You can see if the root has a clear front, if it takes up a lot of space in height, if it has branches that can support plants, and if it leaves enough space for the fish.
This is particularly important in smaller and medium-sized aquariums, where a few centimetres can affect the whole layout.
The images show the product. The AI images show the opportunity.

Tuskwood sometimes uses AI aquascapes to show how a root might feel in an aquarium. These images are inspiration, not a replacement for the product images.
The basis is always the real root: product images, dimensions, proportions and the WYSIWYG principle. The AI image should help you imagine the possibility, but it should not hide the root you are actually buying.
You can read more about this in our post on how Tuskwood uses AI to show the roots in aquarium.
What WYSIWYG does not mean
WYSIWYG does not mean that the root will look exactly the same in all lights, from all angles and in all aquariums.
Wood changes when it comes under water. The colour may deepen. Sun-bleached areas may darken. Plants, light, background, sand and water colour affect how the root is perceived.
But the shape is the big thing. The silhouette, direction, proportions and natural texture are what you choose. That's why each Tuskwood root is shown as a separate object.
In short
WYSIWYG means you buy exactly the root you see in the pictures.
For Tuskwood, it's not just a safety feature. It's the whole idea. When every root is unique, you should be able to choose the one that suits your scape, your aquarium size and the feel you want to build.
You are not just buying an aquarium root. You choose what role the root will play in the aquarium.
