About the plant
Aponogeton boivinianus is a stately bulb plant from Madagascar that needs a large aquarium to show its full potential. Young leaves are light green and sometimes brown-toned, while older leaves develop a deep dark green colour. In good conditions, the leaves can grow up to 80 cm long and 8 cm wide, and the whole plant 30–50 cm wide. The species grows naturally in flowing water and makes a dramatic solitary focal point.
Planting and care
Plant the bulb so that the shoot tip sits at the substrate surface. Provide circulation, nutrients at the roots and preferably added CO2. The plant needs a resting period during which all leaves may disappear; leave the bulb in place and it will normally begin growing again.
