About the plant
Aponogeton longiplumulosus comes from Madagascar and develops large, decoratively crinkled leaves that grow to approximately 35–60 cm long. The whole plant can grow 25–40 cm wide and is therefore best used as a solitary specimen in a larger aquarium. The species is relatively hardy, has no particular requirements for water hardness and often flowers in open aquariums. It takes regular breaks in growth but will normally begin producing new leaves after a few weeks of rest.
Planting and care
Plant the bulb so that the shoot tip sits at the substrate surface. Preferably place a nutrient capsule beneath the bulb and provide stable conditions; added CO2 is recommended for even, vigorous development. Leave the bulb in place to rest when the leaves temporarily disappear.
