About the plant
Lobelia cardinalis comes from North America and is cultivated in the nursery under damp marsh conditions, where the leaves are dark green with a purple underside. Underwater, it changes to beautiful light-green leaves on stems 10–30 cm high and 5–10 cm wide. It is often used in structured groups or so-called plant streets, creating a clear, light rhythm in the midground. In an open aquarium it can grow above the surface, regain its darker colour and develop scarlet flowers.
Planting and care
Plant the stems in a close but airy group. The species can also be used in a pond or paludarium where it can grow above the water surface.
