Tuskwood Ancient Bogwood

Genuine bogwood, hand-picked from Nordic peat bogs where it has been naturally preserved for 500-4000 years. This unique process makes the wood partially mineralised, impregnated with humic substances, durable and beautifully dark reddish brown in colour. Tuskwood Ancient Bogwood is a highly sought-after type of root for aquariums and aquascaping.

  • Long service life: Partially mineralised and extremely durable.
  • Positive for the aquatic environment: Promotes balance and health in the aquarium.
  • No biofilm: Does not normally form a slime on the wood.
  • Sustainable and locally produced: Carefully handpicked in the Nordics.
  • Clear water: The impact of wood on the colour of water is normally very limited and short-lived.

It is a unique root, and it is exactly the root in the photo you are buying. You buy exactly the root shown in the pictures, WYSIWYG.

Description of the nature of the root

This Tuskwood root has an elongated, sturdy main section that tapers into finer branches at one end. The surface displays natural textures and irregularities.

Aquarium style suggestions and planting ideas

The sturdy section provides a stable base in the aquarium, whilst the branches offer attachment points and hiding places. It is ideal for attaching plants such as Anubias, Bucephalandra and Java fern. Mosses can also be tied on to enhance the natural look. Its elongated shape makes it suitable for creating depth or as a focal point in a smaller aquarium.

Advantages of Tuskwood

  • Genuine mineralised bogwood / moss wood
  • Long life span
  • Normally no biofilm or mucus formation
  • Works in both hard and soft water
  • Reliable sinking ability, normally sinking within 2-4 weeks
  • Naturally beautiful colour tones in dark brown with a slightly reddish tinge under water

Unlike regular spiderwood, manzanita, mangrove or Malaysian driftwood, Tuskwood comes from Europe and has formed naturally in Nordic peatlands. The mineralisation and impregnation of humus makes the wood durable and beautiful.

Tuskwood slowly releases natural humic substances that support fish health. However, the impact on the colour of the water is minimal and usually not noticeable.

  • Stable and mild release of humus
  • Positive for the well-being of fish
  • Spleen antimicrobial

A more sustainable choice

Much of the wood sold for aquascaping comes from tropical forests in Asia and is shipped halfway around the world.

Tuskwood is a Nordic natural material, collected locally as a by-product of other natural uses. This makes it a more sustainable choice, without tropical unregulated logging, mangrove destruction or undignified labour conditions. Tuskwood stands for minimal transportation and the promotion of local economy and jobs.

Tuskwood is a very small company, and we use AI to focus on quality and delivery.
