About the plant
Glossostigma elatinoides from New Zealand is one of the smallest aquarium plants, normally reaching only around 2–3 cm high. It is strongly associated with Japanese-inspired aquascapes, where it creates a dense, light-green foreground carpet. The plant is demanding and quickly responds to insufficient light by growing upwards rather than along the bottom. Correctly placed, however, it produces a very low, clearly shaped surface that highlights stone and roots.
Planting and care
Divide the plant into small clumps and set them a few centimetres apart in a completely open, unshaded position. Strong light, added CO2 and soft water promote rapid horizontal growth.
