About the plant
Limnobium laevigatum is a South American floating plant that is particularly attractive in open aquariums. Its 5–15 cm-wide leaves rest at the surface, while long, finely branched roots hang down and provide shelter for gouramis, fry and other surface-dwelling fish. With plenty of light and nutrients, new leaves develop above the surface. Its growth rate responds clearly to nutrient levels and can therefore offer a practical indication of the nutrients available in the water.
Planting and care
Thin regularly so plants beneath the surface still receive light. Leave part of the surface open for gas exchange and free swimming space.
