About the plant
Salvinia minima is a small floating fern with 1–3 cm leaves covered in fine water-repellent hairs. It grows quickly when light and nutrients are sufficient, creating a decorative green cover in open aquariums. By taking nutrients from the water and shading parts of the aquarium, it can help hold back algae. Its dense surface also provides calmer, more natural light for fish and plants below.
Planting and care
Let the plants float freely, but thin them regularly so they do not shade bottom plants too much. Pale leaves often indicate a micronutrient deficiency.
