About the plant
Aegagropila linnaei is actually a spherical alga rather than an ordinary aquatic plant. In nature, wave movement shapes it in shallow lakes; in the aquarium it becomes a decorative, softly green feature around 3–10 cm across. It can also be divided into smaller pieces that gradually round off, or attached to roots and stones to form a carpet.
Planting and care
Turn the moss balls regularly so they retain their shape and receive light from all sides. They grow slowly and otherwise need very little care. The species is protected in parts of Japan.
